What we’ve been up to
Throughout last year, our art workshops had truly been a hub of creativity, offering a rich and diverse array of art and creative thinking activities and processes. These opportunities have been open to both our longstanding members and those who have recently joined our community. In close collaboration with GRACE, HSA has dedicated significant effort to refining the delivery model and content of our Art and Creative Thinking workshops. This involved ongoing consultations with GRACE members and staff, and the consensus was clear: a shift towards a more peer-support-oriented approach was needed, as opposed to the previous individual learning journey. Although individuals do experience both throughout each block.
We are firmly settling into the New Year of 2024 and running at full throttle. It’s a bustling time with our new members, and we’ve been exploring creative ways to express our ideas throughout the year. Various opportunities will present themselves for the ART group. We will be sure to keep you up-to-date.
A big shout-out to our volunteers at GRACE! Thank you so much for your amazing hard work throughout last year. We truly couldn’t do it without you.
People Supporting People
Published Artists
In 2022, our group turned inspiring paintings into a collaborative book project, elevating the artwork and making our members published artists.
Exhibition 2023
HSA-curated “Living With the Past” exhibition at William Patrick Library throughout March 2023 showcased the profound connection of GRACE Art group’s collective work. The carefully selected artworks garnered acclaim, sparking discussions in Kirkintilloch and beyond. The event celebrated the members’ artistic journey, providing a special platform and empowering experience, highlighting the transformative power of collective dedication and hard work.
Oral History Project
HSA’s photography project for the Oral History Project’s event and book launch in March 2023 captures contributors’ roles in “Reflections of Trauma and Recovery.” a unique approach, the black and white exhibition focuses on the backs of individuals, preserving anonymity and adding an intriguing element to the narrative. This approach enhances the overall event experience by introducing a potent human presence while maintaining anonymity, contributing to the exceptional work accomplished over the past year
Feedback from participants
- I enjoy art and being creative because it brings out a different aspect of myself.
- The part of the workshop that puts fire in my belly is the challenge of starting with a blank sheet of paper and ending with a work of art.
- If I didn’t have art, I would feel that I’d lost a special opportunity to learn, relax and connect with others.
- The highlight of art and creativity over the past year has been discovering a new form of self-expression.
- One word that expresses my experience through the creative journey is: EXCITING
