William Wilson Receives Volunteer Of The Year Award During Parliament Visit

In honour of Volunteers’ Week, William Wilson, a dedicated volunteer with GRACE, was formally presented with the Volunteer Of The Year Award by Pam Gosal MSP.

William has been a committed member of our team since 2016. His consistent efforts have been instrumental in building and maintaining community trust within our work.

During a recent visit to the Scottish Parliament, William shared his valuable perspective on volunteering, specifically highlighting the essential nature of fostering trust within the community.

We sincerely thank William for his long-standing dedication and commitment. His service reminds us of the profound impact volunteers have in strengthening our communities.

The Following is from his award letter:

William has been a volunteer with GRACE since 2016, which is longer than most of our staff,
and has recently been recognised as our Volunteer Mentor, he has attended all volunteer
training, gaining knowledge and experience that is put into practice daily in his attendance to
the Hillhead Community Centre when he attends different projects.
As a volunteer mentor, William spends time with new volunteers, sharing skills, encouraging
involvement and participation and building confidence in others.
He is a role model for his peers, in a vulnerable adult environment this can be challenging,
he has patience and a non judgemental attitude. Listening skills are exceptional allowing a
feeling of ease to be natural in his presence.
William is reliable, always happy to help, kind and very witty. Fellow volunteers are very
thankful to learn from his vast knowledge and experience and follow his lead especially at
events.
When he spends time elsewhere it is known and we feel the void highlighting the impact he
has volunteering.
Feedback from fellow volunteers is that they find William easy to talk to, good listener, very
friendly, quick to laugh, solid but above all else mischievous.
William is involved in other community charities, his time is valued and we are very thankful
to be part of his priorities. William enjoys his time and friendships at GRACE and long may
that continue.
William never looks for thanks but we know that recognition for his continuing hard work
would mean a lot to him.
