Recovery Week, First Local Recovery Walk & Scottish Recovery Walk 2024

Recovery Week is an important part of the national Recovery Month of September celebrated within the recovery community, on the lead up to the Scottish Recovery Walk held in a different town every year.

The Scottish Recovery Consortium website about the recovery month explains that every year in September we celebrate Recovery Month – a month for us to all pull together to really get across the message that:

“Not only is recovery possible – it’s possible for everyone!“

GRACE first ever local community walk was born this year to help raise awareness about recovery in our own local community, supported by the local community police to organise a successful event and providing support on the day joining in with the community. Refreshments provided on the return to the community centre.

recovery week timetable The walk was part of the full week of activities including Table Olympics (lots of board games and games played using a table, an event inspired by our own CEO love for playing board games.

The Table Olympics saw each member and event receiving medals and trophies, enjoying competitive confidence building challenges.

Members of our See Hear Choir preformed in the garden after the local Recovery Walk.

The Scottish Recovery walk celebrates those on the recovery journey and those we have lost along the way. The event is a highlight for many members, we join other local community groups on a hired coach and visit new locations every year. The atmosphere on a recovery walk is special and shows the positive effects of peer support and communities supporting each other.  Bonus being in Glasgow this year, looking forward to it all again next year.
